Spent an awesome week at Great Bay Sonesta Resort in early January 2011. Great place to take a relaxing vacation. Beaches are the best; people very hospital & friendly. The one day trip to Anguilla B.W.I. via catamarand is certainly worth it. Definitely going back soon to tour the whole island next time around.

I honeymooned in St Maarten (Pelican Resort?) a few years ago...I recall a WEIRD takeoff (very sharp turn almost immediately) but a BEAUTIFUL landing....absolutely gorgeous from the plane's window...I know the place is tiny but I seriously do not rememeber being annoyed or even noticing the planes...maybe it depends on the beach?! Or perhaps I was too busy being a newlywed to care...?! Either way, we are ABSOLUTELY already planning another vacay there...its only rival in my book is Oahu and this is a WAY shorter (like half the time or less!) flight than HI is!!!

14 square miles of land mass, covering 36 square miles of land and water. 85,000 residents and a million tourists a year...put the landing strip anywhere you want, you're going to end up with the same result when you're talking about having a land mass that is 3.74 miles by 3.74 miles to work with.

I live on St. Maarten / St. Martin which is a dual nation, small, Caribbean island. This beach is located at the strt of the runway of Princess Juliana International Airport. This beach is called Maho Beach, as it is also the beach of the Sonesta Maho Beach Resort. This picture is taken from the Sunset Beach Bar (where topless ladies drink free). If you want more information about St. Maarten/St. Martin, visit www.stmaarten1.com

Revere Beach near Boston is very much like that, except the planes fly parallel to the length of the beach. It's actually pretty trippy how big the planes are and how slow they look like they're flying.

You may or may not have noticed this, but St. Martin is a tiny island. I am not a geography expert, but I'm guessing that landing a plane on a tiny island involves flying over a beach at some point. And I'm also going to assume that, since it is a fairly popular international tourist destination and all, there is more beach to enjoy than the 30 foot strip directly underneath the flight path. It almost looks as if the people in the photos might even seem to be enjoying that "civil engineering atrocity."
