Comments on: Smooth Harold’s top 10 Spoon songs

“Believing is Art” is an absolutely fantastic song. Not merely one of my favorite Spoon songs, but one of my favorite songs of all time.

Although I think that they’ve gotten better with age, and I’ll agree that Telephono sounds a bit too much like a bad Pixies rip off, I will say that the following songs from A Series of Sneaks still get played a lot at my house:

Utilitarian
The Minor Tough
Metal Detektor
Quincy Punk Episode

Considering that a lot of these songs still find their way onto Spoon setlists during live performances, I think I’m not alone. Plus, they each have an attitude or emotion lacking in their later stuff.

Don’t you think it’s a bit excessive to claim that five of the best songs a band that has published six albums and countless EPs come from a single album, and at that the latest one? Where are all the cuts from Kill the Moonlight? What about A Series of Sneaks? This list would more aptly be titled “My Faves from Ga Ga Ga Ga Ga (which is a great album, but inferior to both Girls Can Tell and Kill the Moonlight) with some other songs on the side.” It’d be like culling five songs from “Graceland” and passing those off as half of his ten best… Sure, Graceland was a great album and had to it a different sound, but c’mon.

I think there best song is My First Time Vol. 3. You have to download it off of itunes, but the guitar is amazing.

I also like Everything Hits At Once, Telemon Bridge, Anything You Want, Advance Cassette, but nonetheless a great top ten.

The Delicate Place

My personal opinion is that Gimme Fiction is their best album to date.

What, no Love Ways EP, Soft Effects EP, or Telephono?

Seriously, though, the first few releases weren’t as good as the albums you’re picking from here. Telephono really almost sounds like an album the Pixies never got around to making.
