Alexis, how is Life of Pi anything but a romance? It is not only a romance between Pi and God (his religions), but also in a way, between him and Richard Parker. Romance is defined as: “(2)A prose narrative characters involved in events remote in time or place and usually heroic, adventurous, or mysterious. (3) A love story especially in the form of a novel.” Even if you would prefer to go along with romance as a love story, Life of Pi is about love. Pi loved Richard Parker and he loved God. “I would go on loving.” (209.)It may not be sexual or relational love, but Life of Pi is about nothing but love.

Blake, i get how Life of Pi is a tragedy, i personally didnt find it funny but some people did, so i get how it can be considered a comedy, but i am completely lost on how its a romance. I’m just a freshman in high school. This project is going to be my first big grade in english and i want to do really good on it. Your answer would help me a lot! :)

Hey — nice post. I like the way you thoughtfully answered discussion questions about the book. It’s a nice way to say what you think about a book, instead of the usual “It’s good.” I do that a lot . . . I guess because I think no one will really want me to go into depth about what I really think or maybe because I’m out of practice. Anyway, thanks for the good read.
