I got ‘high’ while running last week

Homer runningI started running again in March and have so far been consistent with my efforts. It marks the first time that I’ve done so in three years.

Last week, I had quite the experience towards extending my determination: I got high while running — a natural/adrenaline high, that is. But it wasn’t the kind that enthuses for a passing moment. It was one of the strongest, most euphoric natural highs I’ve ever had. So much in fact that it encouraged me to run farther and longer than I ever have.

This unshapely body isn’t dead yet!

I started running 9 months ago, first time ever for me. I love it. I ran a 10k at the end of March in 54:25. I’d love to build up to a marathon, but I just don’t have the time right now. So far, 7 miles is as far as I’ve gone.

My favorite running website: Map My Run. It lets you use a Google Maps interface to draw out a running route and measure the distance. It also has a great training log where you put in a total time and number of laps for one of these routes, and it gives you calories burned and 1 mile pace.

Nic, that’s killer timer for a 10k. Awesome!

After all these years of running, I haven’t quite decided whether the high keeps going because of the running or because I am running farther than I planned (without dying). Both are lovely!

Congrats on a good run and well wishes that they just keep getting better!

Thanks Blake, I was pretty happy with the time, but I always find that if I tell non-runners that I run a 8:30 or 9 minute mile, they look at me, and exclaim, “I thought you would be doing a 4 minute mile.” or ” I ran a 5:20 when I was in high school.”

On another note, here’s the latest running gadget I’ve been looking at:
    A Garmin GPS Running Watch
    http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16858108203
It tells you how far you’ve been, your 1 mile pace, and it’ll even give you directions back to your starting point.
